Exploring the ingredients and the cup

This is a mixed botanical infusion, with leaves, seeds and flowers listed together. Its name does not describe a recognised tea-processing category such as green tea or oolong. To understand the drink, begin with the actual ingredients listed above and the preparation instructions on the package in your hands. Do not assume that another blend with a similar name has the same recipe or proportions.

The instructions above use one bag and boiling water, but do not specify the amount of water. Measuring that amount is the most useful first improvement to the method. Choose a cup or pot, note its working volume and brew one serving consistently. Taste a small amount before deciding whether to continue steeping. If the result is more concentrated than you want, strain it and add a little hot water; on the next occasion, use the same amount of water with a shorter infusion.

A broad infuser basket helps keep the different pieces together while making the brewed liquid easy to remove. Pour the whole infusion into a separate cup if you want to compare one steeping time with another. Leaving the ingredients in the drinking cup makes that comparison harder, because the flavour continues changing as you drink.

Try a simple tasting note with three observations: the main aroma, the balance of the first sip and the finish. Look at the colour against a white background, but judge strength by flavour rather than colour alone. For a second infusion, keep the water volume unchanged and compare it with a small amount saved from the first. Stop when the cup no longer has a balance you enjoy; repeated brewing is an option, not a target that every blend must reach.
